Dogs don't always make the best crew

Diesel loves coming out on the boat but is particularly keen on being in the dinghy (rowed by his humans of course). Tim was rowing in yesterday (2 adults, a large dog and a lot of kit - it's amazing what you can fit in a dinghy) when we heard a strange whooshing sound, like air escaping from a tube...
We wouldn't want to hear that sound on Shearwater but she has a solid aluminium hull and floats without tubes. The dinghy is hypalon - it needs its tubes to float.
The tubes were intact and there was nothing in the water that would be likely to cause damage. The sound disappeared. A few seconds later more whooshing. Really not a good sound. After a second or two we realised that the dog had knocked off one of the valves and leant on it.
- Venture Jet canine crew in dinghy
Canine humour...
The front tube looked a little tired - not good. Yes we can swim and yes we have safety kit but after a day at sea you don't really want to get your gear wet and have to swim in towing a sad deflated dinghy. We don't really want to put waterproof camera and mobile bags to the test! No pressure Tim - keep rowing... At least there was another boat on hand to laugh if we did have to tow the dinghy in.
